It is Christmas!
Under coats of snow, in white flurry gusts,
Shine houses, cities, villages,
In fluttering reflections, in shimmery images.
Whether in sparse snow or thick sleets,
Coaches prance on cobblestone lanes, carols resonate in the streets,
Children play twirling games of snowballs,
Build snowmen with carrot noses and arms made of twigs,
Youngsters skate on frozen lakes and ponds, in arabesques and rhapsodies enthralled,
Porches, hallways glow with resplendent ornaments,
Windows and sills are graced with hanging icicles, sparkling snow sprigs,
Here and there in the forest, the snow piles in mounts high and dense,
On a fast sled, a family transports a fresh cut evergreen for a late decoration,
In the houses. the wood fires sing sparkles of hearty mirth,
Socks hang in hopeful rows above the glowing hearth,
Christmas trees are laden with shining presents and beautiful lights,
Everywhere float aromas of cooking delights,
The Christmas spirit illuminates homes, people and churches.
In the polar sky, Santa busies himself with festive preparation,
Rudolf paws the ground in impatience, his nose red from anticipation,
The elves load Santa's sleigh with presents for children of all the world corners,
Laughing and singing the evening away, in joyous competition.
Wise and jovial, Santa calms his helpers,
Fluffing his white beard, smoothing his stiff hat, in gestures nimbly,
Ready for his annual course, up on the roofs and down the chimneys.
On happy adults, excited children,
Christmas arrives with its wonderful presents,
Miracle for all souls and hearts grateful for the Season's blessings.
Christmas time certainly is a time of joy, of sharing,
A time for our world to still perceive miracles, give and receive
Kindness and compassion, without complications,
As in our blessed world of this long ago time of its creation.
